The Baltimore Electrical JATC sponsors registered Apprenticeship Programs in the Electrical and Telecommunications fields. Application requirements are the same for both programs.
Electricians install and maintain all of the electrical and power systems for our homes, businesses, and factories. They install and maintain the wiring and control equipment through which electricity flows. They also install and maintain electrical equipment and machines in factories and a wide range of other businesses.
Electricians usually start their work by reading blueprints – technical diagrams that show the locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, and other equipment. After determining where all the wires and components will go, electricians install and connect the wires to circuit breakers, transformers, outlets, or other components and systems.
Apprentices in the Electrical apprenticeship start at $21.15 plus health benefits for you and your family. It is a 5 year program. Graduates become Journeymen Wiremen in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Current Journeymen receive $47.00 per hour.
Telecommunications installation and repair workers install, test, maintain and repair telephones, telephone switching equipment and telecommunications equipment related to transmission and processing of voice, video signals and other data over a variety of media including fiber optics, microwave, radio and satellite.
Apprentices in the Telecommunication apprenticeship start at $17.93 plus health benefits for you and your family. It is a 3 year program. Graduates become Installer Technicians in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Current Installer Technicians receive $30.97 per hour.
The JATC also offers Construction Wiremen (CW) and Cable Puller (CP) opportunities. Both are work only programs and give potential apprentices the ability to test drive our industry. The CW program has a starting wage of $17.86 per hour and the CP program will start at $16.30 per hour. Applications are available at our office.
